When I began to finish this spalted maple slab I loved the edge detail but felt the overall table top could use some refinement. After thinking through the design, I decided to inlay a black walnut board into the top surface to provide contrast and style. The marrying of these two woods produced a visually stunning top that features the lighter maple hardwood, the dark fungi lines that define the spalted characterization, and the rich, dark walnut inset. I chose to use four solid, single piece, black walnut legs to compliment the edge and table top colors. Alternatively, the table is designed to also accept a set of metal table legs if that is preferred. This centerpiece table measures over 61” long, varies in width from 18” to 23”, and measures about 20” from the floor to table top. The slab is over 2 1/2” thick!
